Health Promotion Healthy
Well-Being Encouraged at Our Nursery Ardrossan We
encourage healthy eating at our nursery and take pride in
offering our healthy snacks to our children. We
aim to raise awareness within our children, their family, the schools
and the wider community so that as many people as possible are living
their healthy lifestyle to the best of their ability.
We
support general well-being, health, nutrition and safety to promote a
happy life all together. The curriculum for excellence has a strong
reputation and focus on health and well-being which we are proud to
follow. At the same time as this we work with various health
professionals and agencies to promote health and well-being while
learning. These include KA Leisure, health visitors, Child Smile, North Ayrshire
Council and Road Safety officers.
As
promoting healthy eating is a massive part of our nursery we follow
several methods to encourage the children to join in also. We supply
daily snacks and also encourage the parents to make healthy lunches.
The children are encouraged to personally create their own snack menu
from a wide range of snacks made here at the nursery every day to
encourage self-choice.
Physical
Activity We
also encourage the children to take part in physical activities with
the other children every day. We strongly advise that all children
take part in at least 30 minutes of physical activity for every
3-hour session they take part in. This has been advised by the
Scottish Government and is something we also agree with for the
general health of your children. We always add variety with our
activities and attend regular meetings to improve our knowledge and
skills for the benefit of our children. Our children also enjoy the
benefits of KA Leisure and have the ability to sign up to the SFA
sports coaching activities such as Mini Kickers, Mini Olympics and
other events throughout the year.
Our
nursery is closely linked with the health visitor from the NHS who
often visits the nursery to encourage the children to look after and
understand their health. The support and advice she offers progresses
your child's understanding and also encourages parents and
guardians to excel with looking after their children's health. We
also encourage our children to follow the Childsmile programme that
we are avid members of. This is first established by the NHS and
involves an allocated dental nurse to visit our nursery and show the
children how to properly brush and care for their teeth. They make
sure that we are following the programme properly, reinforce the
importance of brushing and also renew toothbrushes. On a daily basis
your child will choose their personal toothbrush from the Brush Bus
and brush their teeth together for two minutes.
As
all of our staff are highly skilled and aware of food hygiene,
infection control and first aid you can have great peace of mind with
your children in our care. All of our rooms are cleaned daily and the
toilets are impeccably clean at all times. We follow all health and safety procedures and carry out yearly inspections from the
environmental health agency which we have always passed with flying
colours.
